Unlike instant oat meals or rolled oats that I have daily, steel cut oats require 30-45 min of stove top preparation time. Maybe that’s why I have been postponing cooking this Country Choice steel cut oats that have been sitting on my shelf for a while. This weekend I was excited to find an alternative method to cook the steel oats under the ‘Porridge’ program of the Zojirushi rice cooker. Suddenly cooking steel cut oats has never been so easy. No more stirring and simmering for forever time.
I followed the instruction on the label: 1 cup of organic steel cut oats to 4 cups water. It takes about an hour under this Porridge program to cook the oats. I’m very happy with the result. The oats came out very yummy and thick. I added nonfat milk, a bit of brown sugar, and flax seeds. It was a perfect breakfast. Now I can’t decide whether I like steel cut oats or rolled oats more. 🙂
