All my bags are packed…
Actually, not all. Just one–the polka-dotted one.:)
I am always super busy the evening before the flight and today is no different. On top of that, for some reason, my flight always leaves early, too. I have to leave as early as 4 AM tomorrow. Still, can’t wait to travel again. More photos to come.

Sometimes all we need is a little time off to be a little bit closer to the nature.

Ever since I came back to the bay area, my clinic schedule has been so insanely busy it almost made me hate being in the clinic. The part that wore me down the most was dealing with difficult people from different levels. The tiredness from work just made me long for another vacation, and reminded me of how I loved traveling. I took the above picture while I was on the plane. Though I dislike being on the plane in general, I still enjoyed how my thoughts flowed when I was up 35000 ft above the ground.
Hello from Utica! It’s been quite a journey to get here with the long drive and all. The cab drivers from O’hare didn’t even know where the park is. Although it does feel like we are now trapped in the middle of nowhere, I have been enjoying my time here –because of the people. More updates to come.

The weather in Central Illinois next week will be really hot–in the range of upper 70s to 80s. That’s about 20-30 hotter than the weather here in SF. There is also a river flood warning for the Illinois river, close to where I will be staying.
I need to pack some really light clothing for the summer-like weather out there. Took out a maxi dress for an easy going day, a flower dress for the welcome reception, and the zebra top for another random casual day. I should also throw in hats and sunscreen now before I forget. I found that there will be an indoor swimming pool and quite a bit of hiking trails, so I will also bring the gears for swimming and hiking though not sure if I will even have time for those. Ah..there is so much to do, and so little time.
Heard from p’RR, who has just now arrived in Toronto for MDS meeting, that it is also hot out there. Guess the heat wave is still around. The weather is always the best in the west coast no matter what time of the year is.
Looking at the schedule in the meeting next week, my presentation time falls between 8-10 PM. I wonder who will be up for scientific discussion during that time, especially after long travel hours.
R: “I doubt if people will be too sleepy to look at the poster.” “That’s my poster presentation time.”
T: “Oh, you don’t know these people–they are hardcore scientists! They work very hard and can talk science anytime till the midnight. The day goes by like waking up, talking science, lunch, science, break, science, dinner, science, and then even more science.”
R: ..In awe.
I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. I used to present the work as late as 9 PM last time at the stem cell retreat in Lake Arrowhead. But that was several years back then. One part of me is excited to be seeing ‘these people’, but another part I also feel it’s intimidating. I doubt if I could ever be as hardcore a scientist as they are.
I feel like I just got back from the east coast, and here I am starting to pack again. As much as I love traveling, I’m not really looking forward to the upcoming red-eye flight.
Happy Memorial Day! I miss NYC but it feels wonderful to be home. My bed has never felt so comfy, and I no longer have to use the travel sized products for everything. Taking a shower in my very own place feels great. To my surprise, despite constantly eating all the fried, high carb, high calorie food for the past 8 days with little or no work out, I ended up losing 5 lbs after the trip. Admittedly, that’s how I like about traveling. Everyday is so full of activity and so I guess the calorie is constantly being burned. I completely forgot about the things that made me sad. Perhaps NYC will be the answer for my long standing question…
Back in SF, the weather is much cooler and drier. In fact it was really really cold at night. I am not sure what I prefer, but I somehow enjoy the warm summer day in NYC. I was looking forward to a chance to wear a maxi dress as it is really in trend now. Sadly, with the current weather in SF, it seems like it will be a while before I can wear the dress. I am still in the East Coast time and woke up extra early. I went back to the routine today–eating healthy food, doing local grocery shopping, and going to the gym for the first time in 5 days. A stress-free, relaxing day, I felt my energy was being charged. I am ready to start the rest of the week with a positive outlook.
